Men's and Women's Track Run Fast Times At Mt. Sac Relays

WALNUT, Calif. - The Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, California is well-known for fast times on the track. Providence took advantage of perfect conditions, having eight athletes qualify for the NCAA Regional Championship to be held at North Carolina A&T State University on May 29-30, 2009. This marks most athletes Providence has ever had qualify for the Regional Championships. The men's team had five athletes qualify for the Regional Championship Meet. Senior Charles Dewey (Worcester, Mass.) placed fourth-overall in the 800 meters with a time of 1:49.74, a personal-best. The two kiwi's Hayden McLaren (Christchurch, New Zealand) and Dominic Channon (Nelson, New Zealand) qualified in the 1,500 meters, running 3:44.02 and 3:46.16 respectively. In the 5,000 the two Irishmen David McCarthy (Waterford, Ireland) and Richard Yeates (Dublin, Ireland) qualified, both ran personal-best times, 13:42.11 and 14:03.22 respectively. On the women's side all three qualifiers came in the 5,000 meters. Senior Danette Doetzel (Macklin, Sask.) led the way placing eighth with a personal-best time of 15:46.76. Junior Krystal Douglas (Harpswell, Maine) and freshman Hannah Davidson (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) also qualified in the 5,000 running respective times of 16:31.26 and 16:41.61. The next meet for the Friars will be the historic Penn Relays held at the University of Pennsylvania on April 23-25, 2009.
