WALNUT, Calif. -
On Friday April 17, Senior Charles Dewey (Worcester, Mass.) became the first Friar athlete to qualify for the NCAA Regional Championship in the 800 meters. Competing at the Puma Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif., Dewey placed fourth-overall out of a field of 54 competitors. Dewey's time of 1:49.74 was a personal-best and qualifyed him for the NCAA Regional Championships to be held at North Carolina A&T State University on May 29-30, 2009. Dewey's next challenge will be to qualify for the NCAA National Championship.
More updates from the Mt. Sac relays are still to come. David McCarthy (Waterford, Ireland) competes in the 5,000 meters tonight; along with Hayden McLaren (Christchurch, New Zealand) in the 1,500 meters. Danette Doetzel (Macklin, Sask.) also competes in the 5,000 meters tonight, hoping to also qualify for the Regional Championships.
