The Providence College Outdoor Track and Field teams competed at the Brown Invitational on Saturday, April 14. The men's team was led by senior Dominic Channon (Nelson, New Zealand) and freshman Liam Hillery (Smithfield, R.I.), as Channon won the Mile Run with a time of 4:04.42 and Hillery won the 3,000-meters event with a time of 8:31.72.
Senior Lee Carey (Bedworth, England; 4:09.03), junior Alex Wallace (Waipukarau, New Zealand; 4:14.07), and sophomore Jonathan Hopkins (Bridgend, Wales; 4:14.81) also turned in strong performances in the Mile Run by finishing third, fifth, and seventh, respectively.
Freshman Phillip Reid (Oceanport, N.J.) continued a strong campaign by finishing third in the long jump with a jump of 6.31 meters, and finishing seventh in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.21.
Sophomore Patrick Bowler (Westwood, Mass.) placed fifth in the javelin throw with a throw of 49.91 meters.
The women's team dominated the 3,000-meters event, placing six runners in the top ten. Junior Shelby Greany (Suffern, N.Y.) won the event with a time of 9:47.75, while classmate Sam Roecker (Charlton, N.Y.) took second with a time of 9:49.20. Sophomore Grace Thek (Melbourne, Austrailia) placed third with a time of 9:56.84, sophomore Erin Murphy (Attleboro, Mass.) took fifth with a time of 10:02.95, senior Mary Kate Champagne (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) placed sixth with a time of 10:08.76, and freshman Julie Solimine (Haverhill, Mass.) took eighth with a time of 10:13.63.
Sophomore Laura Isabelle (Troy, N.Y.) qualified for the BIG EAST Championships in the 800-meters by finishing third with a time of 2:13.89. Isabelle was closely followed by classmate Jackie McCarthy (New Rochelle, N.Y.), who finished fourth with a time of 2:14.32. Sophomore Elizabeth DeVivo (Riverside, Conn.) finished sixth with a time of 2:18.19, while classmate Molly McCann (Rockville Center, N.Y.) finished eighth with a time of 2:18.97.
Senior Charlotte Ffrench O'Carroll (Dublin, Ireland) took first place in the Mile Run with a time of 4:47.79. Senior Hannah Davidson (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; 4:51.80) and freshman Devyn Pryor (Dartmouth, Mass.; 5:07.75) finished third and seventh, respectively.
Next up for the Friars is the Larry Ellis Invitational on Friday, April 20, in Princeton, N.J.
