Indoor Track Competes At St. Valentine Invitational
Feb. 11, 2002 The Providence College men's indoor track team competed at the St. Valentine Invitational, in Boston, Massachusetts on Saturday, February 9. Hamish Thorpe (Auckland, New Zealand) finished first in the the mile run, with a time of 4:06.61. Freshman Dylan Wykes (Kingston, Ontario) finished fifth (4:09.83) in the mile. Thorpe and Wykes both qualify for the BIG EAST Championship with their times in the event. In other top finishes, freshman Liam Reale (Hospital, Ireland) qualified for the BIG EAST Championship as he earned a first-place finish in the 1,000-meter run, with a time of 2:26.58. In the 3,000-meter run, senior Dermot Galvin (Kilrush, Ireland), junior Tyler McCabe (Mystic, Conn.) and freshman Patrick Guidera (Clonmel, Ireland) each qualified for the BIG EAST Championship, with their respective finishes. Galvin paced the Friars with a third-place finish (8:09.79). McCabe finsihed sixth (8:14.99), and Guidera took a 14th-place finish, in a time of 8:28.04.
