SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Providence College sophomore track runner Max Smith (Dunedin, New Zealand) finished third in the 1,500 meters at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Saturday, June 10 in Sacramento, Calif. It marks the second time that Smith has earned an All-America honor. He also was an All-America selection in the mile during the NCAA Indoor Championship.

Smith ran a time of 3:44.42 and finished on the heels of South Alabama's Vincent Rono (3:44.07) and Florida State's Tom Lancashire (3:44.20). Smith's impressive finish also earned the PC team six points for a total of 14 points. At the end of 18 events, the Friars were tied for 15th overall in the competition. PC's other eight points came from senior Martin Fagan (Mullingar, Ireland), who placed second in the 10,000 meters to earn All-America honors on Thursday, June 8.

Head Coach Ray Treacy, who is in his 22nd season, has now coached 120 All-Americans at PC, including three at the 2006 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship. In addition to Smith and Fagan, Treacy also guided senior Mary Cullen (Sligo, Ireland) of the women's team to the 5,000-meter championship on Friday, June 9.
