Men's and Women's Track Finish Strong At NCAA Regionals On May 28

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The Providence College Friar men's and women's track teams competed at the NCAA East Regional Track Championships at Randall's Island in New York, N.Y. on May 27-28. In the 5,000 meter championship, senior Mary Cullen (Sligo, Ireland) finished second in a time of 15:49.69. By finishing second, Cullen qualified for the NCAA Championships on June 8-11 in Sacramento, Calif. Senior Deirdre Byrne (Wicklow, Ireland) qualified for the 1,500 meter finals and placed fifth in a time of 4:26.62. With her fifth-place finish, Byrne qualified for the NCAA Championships. In the 3,000 meter steeplechase, junior Fiona Crombie (Christchurch, New Zealand) placed fifth (10:16.96) and also qualified for the NCAA Championship. On the men's side, junior Martin Fagan (Mullingar, Ireland) finished fifth (13:56.82) in the 5,000 and qualified for the NCAA Championship. Also in the 5,000, senior Pat Moulton (Pelham, N.H.) placed 11th (14:13.48) and junior Joe Dionne (Oshawa, Ontario) finished 23rd (14:46.33). In the 1,500 meters finals, freshman Max Smith (Dunedin, New Zealand) placed fourth (3:49.54) and senior Liam Reale (Hospital, Ireland) placed fifth (3:49.74). Both runners qualified for the 1,500 meters at the NCAA Championship.
