Men's and Women's Track At ECAC/IC4A Track Championship After 2 Days

PRINCETON, N.J. -- The Providence College men's and women's track teams ran strong in the first two days of competition at the IC4A/ECAC Outdoor Track Championship at Princeton, N.J. on May 18-19. The Friars were led by junior Dermot Galvin (Kilrush, Ireland) who captured the 10,000 meter title in a time of 30:09.96. It marked the fourth time a Friar has captured the IC4A 10,000 meter title and first since Keith Kelly (Drogheda, Ireland) won his second title in 1999. In the 5,000 meters, the Friars had a strong showing as junior Paul Reilly (Loughrea, Ireland) placed second (13:56.19) and Kelly finished third (13:58.87). Sophomore Adam Sutton (Preston, England) was seventh (14:03.61) in the 5,000 and junior Hamish Thorpe (Auckland, New Zealand) placed 10th (14:08.28). Reilly, Kelly and Sutton all qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championship. On the women's side, junior Claire Shearman (Portsmouth, N.H.) finished eighth (16:50.60) in the 5,000. Also in the 5,000, junior Kathryn Casserly (Galway, Ireland) was 11th (17:01.07). In the women's 1,500 meters, sophomore Roisin McGettigan (Wicklow, Ireland) finished second in the trials in a time of 4:23.28 and advanced to the finals scheduled for Sunday. Sophomore Emer O'Shea (Limerick, Ireland) also competed in the 1,500 and finished in a time of 4:43.45.
