Men's and Women's Track Competes at the BIG EAST Championship - May 7

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- The Providence College men's and women's outdoor track teams competed in their first day of competition at the BIG EAST Championship on May 7 at Rutgers University in Piscataway, N.J. The women's team was led by junior Fiona Crombie (Christchurch, New Zealand) who finished second in the 3,000 steeplechase in a time of 10:26.83. With her time of 10:26.83, Crombie qualified for the NCAA Regionals. PC's other top finisher was graduate student, Lisa Cappello (Lockport, N.Y.). Cappello placed third in the 10,000 meters in a time of 36:37.01. On the men's side, PC was paced by junior Joe Dionne (Oshawa, Ontario). Dionne finished second in the 10,000 meters in a time of 30:24.93. Senior Pat Moulton (Pelham, N.H.) also ran the 10,000 and finished fourth (30:27.67). Senior Liam Reale (Hospital, Ireland) finished seventh (1:51.33) in preliminaries of the 800 meters. Freshman Max Smith (Dunedin, New Zealand) placed fourth (3:50.82) in the 1,500 meter preliminaries. Both runners qualified for the finals in their respective races on Sunday. The Friars will return to action on May 8 in the final day of competiton at the BIG EAST Championships.
