STORRS, Conn. - The Providence College men's and women's track teams each competed at the UConn Invitational on Saturday, April 22 in Storrs, Conn.

The men's team was led by senior Martin Fagan (Mullingar, Ireland) who won the 1,500 meters in a time of 3:49.31 to qualify for the BIG EAST Championship. Also in the 1,500 meters, senior Richard Jones (Wellington, New Zealand) placed third in a time of 3:50.45 to qualify for the BIG EAST Championship. Sophomore Max Smith (Dunedin, New Zealand) placed second in the 800 meters (1:53.00) to qualify for the BIG EAST Championship. The other top finisher for the men's team was junior Matt Kinback (Shrewsbury, Mass.) who placed third in the 5,000 meters (15:20.30).

The women's squad was led by junior Meghan Owen (Danielson, Conn.) and sophomore Nelle Trefz (Iowa City, Iowa). Owen finished fourth in the 1,500 in a time of 4:44.02. Trefz placed third (2:17.22) in the 800 meters. In the 5,000 meters, junior Laura McCarthy (Edina, Minn.) finished fifth (18:02.21) and senior Ashley Jensen (Lincoln, R.I.) was sixth (18:15.90).
