SMITHFIELD, R.I. -
The Providence men's track team opened the outdoor season under the sunny skies of Bryant University on Saturday, March 28th at the Bryant Invitational. Senior Nick Berluti (Westwood, Mass.) and Junior Tom Webb (Williston, Vt.) each won their respective events, the 1,500 meters and 5,000 meters.
Webb led things off for the Friars, winning the 5,000 meter race in a time of 15:14.7. Sophomore Stephen Hankinson (Summit, N.J.) was close behind, placing second in 15:17.7. In the 1,500 meters, Nick Berluti finished first in a time of 4:01.32.
In the sprint events, senior Charles Dewey (Worcester, Mass.) placed fourth in the 400 meters, running a time of 49.45. While in the 200 meter dash, Sophomore Thomas Manglasviti placed fifth in a time of 22.93. Meanwhile in the field events, Sophomore Steve Justus (Okanogan, Wash.) placed third in the javelin, with a BIG EAST and personal-best throw of 56.76 meters.
The men compete next at the Uconn Invitational at the University of Connecticut on Saturday, April 4, 2009.
