Providence College Men's And Women's Indoor Track Teams Compete At The New England Championships

    BOSTON, Mass. -- The Providence College men's and women's indoor track teams competed at the New England Championships on Friday, February 23 and Saturday, February 24 in Boston, Mass. Leading the way for the women's team was graduate Aine Hoban (Wakefield, England) who captured first place in the 3,000 meters also qualifying for the NCAA's. The men's team was led by senior Martin Fagan (Mullingar, Ireland) and sophomore Richard Yeates (Dublin, Ireland) who won the 5,000 meter and 3,000 meter run, respectively.

    Hoban won the 3,000 in a time of 9:24.49. Sophomore Katie DiCamillo (Garden City South, N.Y.) took third in the 3,000 in 9:33.75 also qualifying for the NCAA's. Fellow sophomore Danette Doetzel (Macklin, Sask.) finished in fourth place at 9:34.38. Senior Meghan Owen (Danielson, Conn.) captured the mile in a time of 4:51.24.

    Fagan won the 5,000 in a time of 13:55.02. Yeates took first in the 3,000 at 8:20.45. Junior Ahmed Haji (West Hartford, Conn.) finished in third in the 5,000 at 14:35.05. The men's team comprised of junior Max Smith (Dunedin, New Zealand), senior Nick Weidman (Sudbury, Mass.), sophomore Charles Dewey (Worcester, Mass.) and freshman Hayden McLaren (Christchurch, New Zealand) set a new school record in the distance medley and took first with a time of 9:36.64; qualifying for the NCAA's. Smith had a split time of 3:56.08. The men also set a school record in the 4x400 with a time of 3:21.63.

     

     

    The men's team finished the meet fifth out of thirty-two, while the women took home a third place finish out of thirty teams.
