BIG EAST Indoor Championship at Syracuse Univ., Syracuse, N.Y. - Feb. 17-18, 2001

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Providence College men's track team scored 34 points and finished 11 of 14 teams at the BIG EAST Indoor Track Championship at Syracuse University in Syracuse, N.Y. on Sunday, February 18.

The Friars were led by senior Keith Kelly (Drogheda, Ireland), who captured the 3,000 meter title (8:04.71) and earned All BIG EAST accolades. With his time of 8:04.71 in the 3,000, Kelly qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championship. Kelly also anchored PC's Distance Medley Relay team which finished first in a time of 9:55.55. For his efforts, Kelly was named the BIG EAST Most Outstanding Track Performer.

The other members of the Friar Distance Medley Team were junior Hamish Thorpe (Auckland, New Zealand), senior Kevin Cashman (Westwood, Mass.) and senior Larry Morrissey (Waterford, Ireland).

Also in the 3,000 meters, Thorpe placed fourth in a time of 8:14.46.

In the 5,000 meters, Friar sophomore Adam Sutton (Preston, England) placed third (14:19.65), junior Dermot Galvin (Kilrush, Ireland) finished sixth (14:43.09) and senior Ciaran Lynch (Limerick, Ireland) was 11th (14:58.50).
