Men's Indoor Track And Field Athlete's Dominate at Valentine Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. - With one week remaining until the BIG EAST championship, the Men's Indoor Track Team assaulted the track with blazing times on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at the Valentine Invitational at Boston University. It was Freshman David McCarthy (Waterford, Ireland) and Junior Hayden McLaren, who stole the show, both running under four-minutes in the mile, 3:57.75 and 3:57.78 respectively. McCarthy's and McLaren's times qualify them for the NCAA Championships at Texas A&M University on March 13-14, 2009. In addition, McCarthy and McLaren now rank third and fourth all-time at Providence behind Hall of Famer's Andy Keith and Mark Carroll. Also in the mile, Sophomore Nicholas Barao (Riverside, R.I.) ran a personal best and IC4A qualifying-time of 4:12.81 and Freshman teammate Corey Brunelle qualified for the BIG EAST Championships with his personal-best time of 4:19.34. In other events, Freshman Dominic Channon (Nelson, New Zealand) ran a personal-best and NCAA provisional-qualifying time of 7:58.85 in the 3,000 meters. Channon's time eclipsed the previous New Zealand national junior record. In the 1,000 meters, Sophomore Stephen Hankinson (Summit, N.J.) ran a personal-best time of 2:29.69.
