Providence College Men's Indoor Track Athletes Compete at Boston Indoor Games and Yale Giegengack Invitational

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Men's Indoor Track Team had athletes compete on Saturday February 7, 2009 at two different meets, the Boston Indoor Games at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, Mass. and the Giegengack Invitational at Yale University. At the Boston Indoor Games, Junior Hayden McLaren (Christchurch, New Zealand) and Freshman David McCarthy (Waterford, Ireland) competed in the College Mile, McLaren placed second in the event in a time of 4:01.22 and McCarthy was fourth (4:01.74). In the College 800 meter race, Senior Charlie Dewey (Worcester, Mass.) placed second in a time of 1:51.87. At the Giegengack Invitational, Freshman Dominic Channon (Nelson, New Zealand) won the mile in a time of (4:06.30) and Sophomore Stephen Hankinson (Summit, N.J.) was ninth (4:11.71), a personal best and IC4A qualifying time. In the 3,000 meters, Senior Richard Yeates (Dublin, Ireland) took the victory in a time of 8:10.84 with teammates Junior Michael Anderson (Ajax, Ontario) placing fourth (8:20.19) and Sophomore Nicholas Barao (Riverside, R.I.) was fifth (8:21.65), all three runners ran personal bests and qualifying times for the BIG EAST Championships on February 21, 2009. The men compete next at the Valentine Invitational at Boston University on Saturday, February 14, 2009.
