Men's And Women's Indoor Track Competes At Boston University Quad Meet

BOSTON, MASS. - The Providence College men's and women's indoor track teams competed at the Boston University Quad Meet on Monday, February 6, 2006 at the Track and Tennis Center in Boston, Mass. On the women's side, senior Mary Cullen (Sligo, Ireland) and junior Meghan Owen (Danielson, Conn.) finished first and second in the mile, respectively. Cullen's time of 4:39.31 in the event marks the fastest indoor time in the country this season. Owen's time of 4:39.60 is the second fastest time in the country this season. The duo qualified individually for the NCAA Championship as well as the BIG EAST and ECAC Indoor Track Championships. Freshman Katie DiCamillo (Garden City, N.Y.) placed sixth in the mile (4:57.71) and qualified for the BIG EAST and ECAC Championships as well. In the 3,000 meters, sophomore Mary Nelle Trefz (Iowa City, Iowa) qualified for the BIG EAST Championship with a second place finish in a time of 10:04.62. On the men's side, senior Martin Fagan (Mullingar, Ireland) ran an NCAA Qualifying Time in the 3,000 meters. He won the event in a time of 7:57.69. He also qualified for the BIG EAST and IC4A Indoor Track Championships. Senior Joe Dionne (Oshawa, Ontario) qualified for the BIG EAST Indoor Championships in the 3,000 meters with a second-place finish in a time of 8:33.45. Senior Richard Jones (Wellington, New Zealand) qualified for the BIG EAST and IC4A Championships in the mile with a first place finish in a time of 4:13.78. On February, 4, sophomore Max Smith (Dunedin, New Zealand), Jones, Fagan and freshman Charles Dewey (Worcester, Mass.) competed in the distance medley at Yale's Giegengack Invitational in New Haven, Conn. The team of four qualified for the BIG EAST and IC4A Indoor Track Championships with their third-place performance in a time of 9:44.64.
