Providence College Men's Indoor Track Team Returns To Competition at URI Sorlein Invitational

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Men's Indoor Track Team returned to action on Friday, January 16 at the University of Rhode Island Sorlein Invitational. The Friars enjoyed success in the distance events, with individual wins in 1,000 meters, the mile, and 3,000 meters races.

    In the 1,000 meters it was Junior Hayden McLaren (Christchurch, New Zealand) who set the pace, winning in a time of 2:25.78. Freshman David McCarthy (Waterford, Ireland) led the mile field with a winning time of 4:14.18. Senior Richard Yeates (Dublin, Ireland) took the victory in the 3,000 meters race (8:27.02) and Junior Michael Anderson (Ajax, Ontario) placed third (8:35.00).

    On the sprinting side, Charlie Dewey placed second in the 500 meter race in a time of 1:05.42. Providence ended the meet on a high note, winnning the 4x800 meter relay (7:43.94). The team was comprised of David McCarthy, Hayden McLaren, Charles Dewey, and Nick Berluti.

    The men compete next at the Terrier Classic Invitational at Boston University on Saturday, January 24, 2009.
