Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving to Participate in Light the Night Walk
Sept. 27, 2006 Providence, R.I. -- The Providence College men's and women's swimming and diving teams will be participating in the Light the Night Walk to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The event will take place on Saturday, September 30, at 7:00 p.m. at three locations in Rhode Island: Chet Nicholas Field in Lincoln, Blackstone Park in Providence and Brenton Point Park in Newport. The Providence student-athletes and coaches will be walking at the Lincoln location. The Friars hope to raise $2,000 from the event. Last year, members of the men's and women's swimming and diving team participated in relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina and raised over $8,000. The Light the Night Walk is the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's annual evening fundraising walking event to celebrate and commemorate lives touched by cancer. During the twilight walk, friends, family and co-workers hold illuminated balloons - white for survivors and red for supporters. The evening also includes music, food and family activities. For more information on the Light the Night walk, visit lightthenight.org or call 877-LTN-WALK.
