PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College men's and women's swimming and diving teams were named Academic All-America on Monday, March 19 by the College Swim Coaches Association of America.

The PC swimmers were honored for the work in the classroom in the fall 2000 semester. The men's team finished eighth nationally in Division I with a team grade point average of 3.13. The finish was the highest ever for the men, and they were second to only the University of Notre Dame in the BIG EAST Conference.

The women's squad ranked highest of all BIG EAST Conference women's teams with a 3.27 gpa which put them 17th nationally. Both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams have been named Academic All-America in each semester for the last decade.
