Providence Swimmers Open Season At Central Connecticut
Women Win, 143.5 - 82.5; Men Lose, 125-115
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College swim teams opened their season at Central Connecticut on Saturday afternoon. The women won by the score of 143.5 -82.5 led by four different swimmers who took first place honors. The men's squad was led by junior Jed Michnowicz (Santa Clara, CA), who took two first place honors in a losing team effort, 125-115.
The women's 200 yard melay relay and 200 yard freestyle relay both took top honors. The medley relay was won by junior Jamie Seneco (N. Branford, CT), senior Kathleen Kelly (Red Bank, NJ), sophomore Karen Cardwell (Marietta, GA) and freshman Lori Cosman (Newburgh, NY).
For the Friar men swimmers, Michnowicz won the 1000 yard free with a time of 9:58.53 and also took the 200 yard free swimming a 1:47.26 time. Senior Steven Brown (Sacramento, CA) won the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:03.22 and also won the 200 yard individual medley by a time of 2:01.87. Junior Sean Connell (Roseland, NJ) won the 200 yard backstroke while sophomore Kevin Reeder (Southberry, CT) took the 500 yard freestyle.
The women improve to 1-0 on the season while the men fall to 0-1 overall.
