Men's And Women's Swimming And Diving Defeat Montclair State

UPPER MONTCLAIR, N.J. - The Providence College men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed at Montclair State University on Friday, November 7 in Upper Montclair, N.J. The women's team defeated Montclair, 141-80, while the men's team earned a 134-102 victory.
On the women's side, Providence recorded seven first-place finishes on the day. Senior Bridget McKenna (Narragansett, R.I.) led the Friars with two individual victories in the 1,000 freestyle (11:38.12) and the 500 freestyle (5:37.23). Junior Jamie Modon-Cohen (Yorktown, N.Y.) won the one-meter diving event with 170.65 points. Freshman Katelyn Flynn (Sinking Spring, Pa.) captured the 200 freestyle in a time of 2:05.07, senior Katie Burns (Clark, N.J.) won the 200 IM with a time of 2:31.08 and freshman Carolyn Rider (Freehold, N.J.) won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:20.02. The Friars also captured the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:22.81. The relay team was comprised of freshman Nicole Chismar (Monmouth Beach, N.J.), freshman Anne Nemeth (Kendall, N.Y.), Rider and freshman Katherine Miller (Massapequa, N.Y.). The women's team will return to action on Friday, November 14 against CW Post and Central Connecticut State University. The meet will be held in Taylor Natatorium at 4:00 p.m. in Providence, R.I.
On the men's side, Providence earned four individual first place finishes at the meet. Senior Patrick Kavanagh (Newburgh, N.Y.) won the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:53.53, freshman Andrew Zockoff (Dover, Mass.) won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:55.31, sophomore Seth Brockman (Kenner, La.) captured the 50 freestyle in a time of 23.17 and freshman Jeff Vollero (Hamden, Conn.) finished first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:09.74. The Friars also won the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:48.71. The relay team was comprised of senior Bryan Flynn (Middletown, R.I.), senior Patrick Franzen (Taftsville, Vt.), Vollero and junior Matthew Raske (New Rochelle, N.Y.). On November 8, the Friars competed against Loyola College (Md.) and Fairfield. Providence will return to action on Wednesday, November 19 at Holy Cross (Worcester, Mass.) at 6:00 p.m.
