FAIRFIELD, CONN. -- The Providence College men's and women's swimming teams opened their 2001-02 seasons on Saturday, November 3 at Fairfield University. The PC women defeated Fairfield, 153-90, while the PC men were defeated, 128-90.

The Friars men won just four events, with sophomore Patrick Kavanaugh (Newburgh, N.Y.) winning two of the four events. Kavanaugh won the 800 meter freestyle in 9:31.02 and won the 400 meter free in 4:29.74. PC junior Keith Chobot (Randolph, N.J.) was PC's other individual event winning, claiming victory in the 200 meter breast (2:43.54). Finally, the PC 400 meter free relay team of junior Mike Bien (North Reading, Mass.), sophomore Bryan Flynn (Middletown, R.I.), freshman Matthew Raske (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and Kavanaugh led the relay team to victory in 3:48.98.

The Providence College men's swimming and diving team compete next on Tuesday, November 6 when they travel to Boston College.
