STONY BROOK, N.Y. - The Providence College men's swimming and diving team was defeated in its season opener, 146-63, on Saturday, Ocotober 26, by Stony Brook in Stony Brook, N.Y.

Junior Patrick Kavanagh (Newburgh, N.Y.) and junior Bryan Flynn (Middletown, R.I.) each earned second-place finishes in their respective events to pace the Friars. Kavanagh finished second in the 1000 meter freestyle event with a time of 10:59.98. Flynn took second in the 100 meter backstroke with a time of 57.86.

Providence also took second in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:33.14. The relay team was comprised of Flynn, Kavanagh, senior Tom Darrow (Cranston, R.I.) and sophomore Matthew Raske (New Rochelle, N.Y.).

Providence falls to 0-1 on the season and will host Fairfield University on Saturday, November 2. The meet will begin with the diving competition at 11:00 a.m., with swimming events beginning at 1:00 p.m.
