Jan. 25, 2003 The Providence College men's and women's swimming and diving team each claimed victory over Umass Dartmouth on Saturday, January 25 in Providence, R.I. The women's team defeated the Corsairs, 120-117, while the men's team earned a 95-80 victory.

On the women's side, senior Kate Fuller (Staten Island, N.Y.), senior Christina Cotter (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) and sophomore diver Jamie Modon-Cohen (Yorktown, N.Y.) each posted two individual first-place finishes in their respective events to lead the Friars. Fuller won the 50 meter freestyle in a time of 29.19 and the 100 meter freestyle in 1:03.11. Cotter won the 200 meter freestyle (2:20.28) and the 200 meter breaststroke (2:56.48). Modon-Cohen posted two first-place finishes in the one-meter diving competition (required and optional), with 148.88 points and 176.93 points, respectively. Other Friars who earned first-place finishes in the meet were junior Bridget McKenna (Narragansett, R.I.) in the 800 meter freestyle (9:46.59), freshman Lori Brezinsky (Bethlehem, Pa.) in the 200 meter individual medley (2:43.40) and junior Caitlin Driscoll (Fall River, Mass.) in the 200 meter backstroke (2:42.12). The Friars also posted a victory in the 400 meter freestyle relay with a time of 3:58.81. The team was composed of Fuller, Cotter, Taylor Dabrowski (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Meg Daly (River Forest, Ill.), who are all seniors on the squad this season. The meet marked the final home competition for each of the seniors.

In men's action, the Friars were led by junior Patrick Kavanagh (Newburgh, N.Y.) and junior Bryan Flynn (Middletown, R.I.) who each earned two first-place finishes on the day. Kavanagh won the 800 meter freestyle (9:24.30) and the 100 meter freestyle (55.55) events. Flynn posted individual victories in the 50 meter freestyle (25.87) and the 200 meter backstroke (2:23.40). Three other Providence swimmers earned first-place finishes in the meet. Freshman Seth Brockman (Kenner, La.) claimed the 200 meter freestyle event with a time of 2:05.85. Senior Tom Darrow (Cranston, R.I.) won the 200 meter individual medley (2:23.15) and sophomore Matthew Raske (New Rochelle, N.Y.) finished first in the 400 meter freestyle in a time of 4:37.59.

The Friars will return to action on Saturday, February 1 in Burlington, Vt. as they take on the University of Vermont Catamounts. The diving portion of the meet will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by the swim events at 1:00 p.m.
