PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College Men's Swimming team defeated Mt. Saint Mary College, 63-56, on January 15 in Providence, R.I. to claim its first victory of the season.

In the only relay event of the day, the Friar team of freshman Mike Vezzoli (Old Lyme, Conn.), junior Pat Franzen (Taftsville, Vt.), freshman Frank LaMonaca (Chesire, Conn.), and sophomore Mathew Raske (New Rochelle, N.Y.) finished first with a time of 1:59.74. In the 200 meter freestyle event, junior Patrick Kavanagh (Newburgh, N.Y.) placed first (2:05.28), while freshman Seth Brockman (Kenner, La.) also finished first in the 50 meter freestyle (25.60). LaMonaca placed first in his second event of the meet as he took the 200 meter individual medley with a time of 2:29.56. Finally, another Friar, Brockman grabbed a second victory when he placed first in the 100 meter butterfly (1:10.19).

With the victory, the Friars improve to 1-4 on the season and will next compete at Maine on Saturday, January 18 at noon.
