Men’s Soccer Ranked No. 10 In Final Poll

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men’s soccer team was ranked 10th in the final NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Associate of America) poll of the season, release on Dec. 13. The Friars finished the season with their second NCAA Elite Eight Appearance in the last three seasons and a BIG EAST regular season title. The No. 10 ranking is the highest Providence College men’s soccer reached in the 2016 season, with their previous high being No. 22 in the Nov. 8 poll.

After capturing the program’s first BIG EAST Regular Season title, Providence won three NCAA Tournament games before falling in the second overtime at North Carolina in the NCAA Quarterfinals. Providence hosted Delaware in the NCAA First Round, defeating the Blue Hens, 2-0.

The Friars advanced to the NCAA Second Round at the No. 1 ranked and No. 1 overall seed Maryland and scored four goals in 13 minutes to comeback from a 4-1 defect and defeat the Terps, 5-4.

Providence traveled to Omaha, Neb. for the NCAA Third Round game against the Creighton Bluejays, again coming from behind to win, 2-1.
