PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College freshman goalkeeper Chris Konopka (Toms River, N.J.) has been named to the roster of the US Soccer Region I Under-19 Men's Olympic Development Team. The squad will travel to California on January 2-6 for a five-day competition held at the National Team Training Headquarters at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. The competition will be held to identify the country's top elite young players for selection to the Under-20 Men's US National Team player pool for 2004 and 2005.

Konopka is one of only 16 players selected to the Under-19 Region I team from 10 Northeast states located from Maine to Virginia. He is one of only two players selected from New Jersey.

This season, Konopka played in five games for the Friars and posted a 0-2-2 mark with a 1.63 goals against and a .722 save percentage.

Konopka, who graduated from Toms River East High School, earned NSCAA Regional High School All-America honors. He is the son of Walt and Debbi Konopka.
