Complete 2012 All-Northeast Region Teams
Red shirt junior Wilder Arboleda (Pawtucket, R.I.) of the Friar men’s soccer team was named a 2012 NCAA Division I Men’s All-Northeast Region Third Team honoree the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced on Monday, Dec. 10.
Arboleda started 15 of Providence’s 16 games and led the Friars in goals (six), points (13), game-winning goals (two) and shots (39). His two game-winning goals came in overtime. On Aug. 31, he broke a 0-0 tie at Bryant when his header found the back of the net with 53 seconds to play in double overtime. For his efforts, he was named to the 2012 Ocean State Classic All-Tournament Team.
Arboleda’s other overtime game-winning goal came on Oct. 13 when he finished off Pittsburgh by completing a hat trick at 93:12 to give the Friars a 3-2 win. His impressive outing over the Panthers included three goals in just under 30 minutes of play. Arboleda added goals versus Boston University (Sept. 7) and at Columbia (Oct. 9). He also notched an assist against Holy Cross (Sept. 12). The Friars were 3-0-2 when Arboleda registered a point during the 2012 season.
In three seasons with the Friars, Arboleda has played in 55 games, including 38 starts, and scored 14 goals to go with four assists for 32 points. He also became the 14th Friar to earn All-BIG EAST honors (those 14 players have a combined 20 All-BIG EAST honors) when he was named to the All-BIG EAST Third Team at the conclusion of the season.
