Providence College men's soccer forward, freshman Mac Steeves (Needham,Mass.) was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week, it was announced Monday, Nov. 11.
Steeves earned the honor after notching the game-winning goal in the Friars' 2-1 win over Creighton on Friday, Nov. 8. In the 84th minute, with the score even at 1-1, junior Fabio Machado (Santa Catarina, Brazil) ripped a shot from outside the 18 yard box. Steeves trailed the play and finished the rebound off of Creighton's keeper to secure a Friars victory (2-1). The win clinched a home game for Providence in the first round of the BIG EAST Tournament.
Steeves has notched three goals on the season in addition to one assist for a total of seven points.
Providence returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 12 when the fourth-seeded Friars play host to fifth-seeded Creighton in the opening round of the conference tournament. The game is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. and will be played on the turf field located at the Ray Treacy Track.
