Two Providence Men's Soccer Players Earn All-BIG EAST Honors

SHORT HILLS, N.J. -

Providence College men’s soccer junior Marc Cintron (Piscataway, N.J.) was named to the All-BIG EAST Third Team and freshman Marcos Ugarte (Providence, R.I.) earned All-BIG EAST Rookie Team honors on Thursday, November 10 at 2011 BIG EAST Men’s Soccer Championship banquet. It marks the first time that Cintron has earned an All-BIG EAST honor, while Ugarte becomes the first Friar to be named to the All-Rookie Team since Kempes Corbally in 1998.

In nine BIG EAST Conference games, Cintron finished third on the team in scoring with nine points on three goals and three assists. Cintron scored two goals in a 2-1 win at West Virginia on October 21. He had a stretch of four consecutive matches in which he recorded at least one point.

Ugarte led the Friars in scoring with 15 points, all of which were in nine BIG EAST matches. His six goals ranked tied for second in league games, while his 15 points were the third highest mark in the league. Ugarte also led the Friars with three game-winning goals, including a two-goal performance versus Cincinnati on September 24.

Providence College (10-7-1) finds out if it will receive an NCAA Tournament at-large bid on Monday, November 14 at 4:30 p.m. The selection show for the Division I men’s soccer championship will be streamed online at NCAA.com. The Friars are No. 25 in the most recent RPI rankings and 48 teams are selected to the Tournament. The Friars are seeking to earn their sixth NCAA Tournament berth and the fifth in the last seven years under Head Coach Chaka Daley.
