FRIARS TO FACE ST. JOHN’S IN BIG EAST QUARTERFINALS... Providence College, seeded No. 4 in the BIG EAST Blue Division, will take on St. John’s, seeded No. 1 in the BIG EAST Red Division, on Saturday, November 8 at 7:00 p.m. at Belson Stadium in Queens, N.Y. The winner advances to the semifinals, which will take place on November 14-16 in Tampa, Fla. It will mark the second all-time meeting between the two schools in the Conference Championship.

FRIARS ALL-TIME IN THE BIG EAST CHAMPIONSHIP... The Friars are making their 10th appearance all-time in the BIG EAST Championship, including four consecutive seasons. The Friars have posted a 5-8-3 all-time mark in the BIG EAST Championship, including a win over Villanova on November 5 in the first round. Last season, the Friars were defeated by Cincinnati, 2-0, in the first round in Providence.

FRIARS VERSUS ST. JOHN’S... In 22 all-time meetings between Providence College and St. John’s, the Red Storm lead, 18-2-2. The two teams faced each other earlier this season on September 28 in Queens, N.Y. and the Red Storm came away with a 1-0 victory as Noel Beccera converted a penalty kick in the 86th minute to lead the Red Storm to victory. PC’s last victory over St. John’s was during the 1988 season. Last season, the two sides played to a scoreless draw in Providence, marking the second tie in the series.

FRIAR QUICK NOTES... • The Friars have advanced to the BIG EAST Championship Quarterfinals in three of the last four seasons.

• The Friars are in the midst of their fourth consecutive winning season, a feat that has not been accomplished since 1970-73.

• Providence has hosted a BIG EAST Championship First Round match in each of the last three seasons.

• Providence has played St. John’s just once in the BIG EAST Championship and the Red Storm prevailed, 2-0, in the 2006 semifinals en route to winning the title.

• The Friars posted an 8-1-1 record at home this season.

FRIARS KNOCK OFF VILLANOVA TO ADVANCE TO BIG EAST QUARTERFINALS... Junior back Bryan Minogue (Miller Place, N.Y.) scored his first career goal with 1:23 remaining in the second half to lead the Providence College men’s soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Villanova in the BIG EAST Championship First Round Wednesday afternoon at Glay Field. The Friars took a 1-0 lead in the 38th minute on a goal by Tim Ritter (Weston, Mass.) as senior Ryan Maduro (Bristol, R.I.) assisted on the goal. However, the Wildcats responded with 52 seconds left in the first half to even the score at 1-1. In goal, junior Tim Murray (Haverhill, Mass.) made three saves.

MADURO CLIMBS TO THIRD ALL-TIME IN ASSISTS... Senior Ryan Maduro (Bristol, R.I.) recorded one assist in a 2-1 win over Villanova on November 5 and moved into a tie for third all-time at Providence with 22 career assists. In addition, it marked Maduro’s 50th career point, which ranks him eighth all-time at Providence.

FRIARS AGAINST RANKED TEAMS... Providence has posted a 3-3 mark against ranked teams this season, including a 2-3 mark against BIG EAST Conference ranked teams. The Friars have beaten No. 4/4 Boston College, No. 20/23 Georgetown and No. 13/11 Connecticut. The Friars have been defeated by No. 19/16 Louisville, No. 4/6 St. John’s and No. 9/16 Notre Dame.
