Men's Soccer to Play Georgetown in BIG EAST Playoffs

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's soccer team will play the Georgetown Hoyas on Sunday, November 8 in Washington, D.C. at 1:00 p.m. in the BIG EAST Quarterfinal Playoffs.

Providence College, which concluded its regular season on Tuesday with a 3-1 win against Dartmouth, has a 9-8-1 record and has posted its first winning season since 1990. PC's 9-8-1 record also marks the first time the Friars have won nine games in a season since 1987.

The Friars finished in fifth place in BIG EAST Conference standings with a 6-4-1 record and secured their first berth in the league playoffs since 1987. The Friars' 6-4-1 mark also gives the team its first winning record in BIG EAST action since the league began conference play in 1985.

Georgetown, which has a 13-5 record, placed fourth in the league standings with a 7-4-0 record. In the only meeting between the two teams this season, the Friars defeated the Hoyas, 2-1, at Providence on Oct 24.

Providence is led on offense by sophomore forward Kevin Jones (Westford, Mass.). In 18 games this season, Jones has registered nine goals and four assists. In goal, senior Dan Pires (Ludlow, Mass.) has posted a 9-8-1 mark, a 1.31 goals against average and an .817 save percentage.

The winner of the PC vs. Georgetown game will face the winner of the No. 1 seed Connecticut vs. the No. 8 seed West Virginia game in the BIG EAST Semifinals on Nov. 13 at Rutgers University in Piscataway, N.J.
