Men's Soccer To Host Connecticut On Tuesday, November 2 At 2:00 p.m.

Providence College Men's Soccer Tuesday, November 2, 2004 @ 2:00 p.m. at Providence College Connecticut vs. Providence College Connecticut (8-7-2/4-4-1) - UConn enters Tuesday's game with an 8-7-2 mark overall and a 4-4-1 record in BIG EAST play. In their last game, the Huskies were defeated at Notre Dame, 2-0, on October 30 ... Connecticut is attempting to earn one of the final spots in the BIG EAST Tournament ...The Huskies have posted a 24-2-2 mark all-time versus the Friars ... In the last meeting between the two teams, Connecticut defeated the Friars, 2-1, in 2002 at Storrs, Conn. The two teams did not play last season ... Freshman forward Bonginkosi Macala (Pretoria, South Africa) leads the team in points with 12 on five goals and two assists ... Junior Adam Schuerman (Brookfield, Wis.) is the team's top goalkeeper. Schuerman has posted a 5-4-2 mark with 21 saves and two shutouts on the season.
Providence (0-15/0-9) - Tuesday's game will mark the final contest for the Friars' four seniors. Seniors Jeff Newman (Northboro, Mass.), Jeff Smith (Omaha, Neb.), Carlos Suero (Plantation, Fla.) and Shawn Deehan (Salisbury, Md.) are all in their fourth season with the Friars. They have helped the Friars earn two berths in the BIG EAST Tournament, including last year when the team advance to the BIG EAST Semifinals. In the team's most recent game, the Friars were defeated at Pittsburgh, 2-0, on October 31 ... The Friars have lost eight games this season by one goal, including two overtime losses at home to Georgetown (1-0) and West Virginia ... The Friars will be looking to earn their first win against Connecticut since a 2-1 overtime victory at Glay Field in 1997... Junior Eoin Lynch (Yarmouth, Maine) leads the Friars in scoring this season with five points (two goals and one assist) ... Senior Jeff Newman (Northboro, Mass.) and sophomore Chris Konopka (Toms River, N.J.) have shared the goalkeeping duties. In the team's most recent game, Konopka made four saves at Pittsburgh. Newman has a 1.95 goals against average and a .719 save percentage in 10 games. Konopka has played in seven games and recorded a 2.50 goals against average and a .717 save percentage.
