Men's Soccer To Host Seton Hall In Key BIG EAST Match

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. - - The Providence College men's soccer team will face Seton Hall University on Saturday, October 17 at 2:00 p.m. in a crucial BIG EAST Conference match at PC's Glay Field.

    Providence (5-5-2, 2-4-1 BIG EAST) is in fifth place in the BIG EAST Blue Division with seven points ahead of Marquette and Seton Hall, who have six and five points, respectively. The Friars are coming off a 1-1 double-overtime tie against Yale on Tuesday, October 13 at Glay Field as junior Matt Marcin (Wilmington, Del.) scored the lone goal for the Friars. Senior Tim Ritter (Weston, Mass.), who has three goals this season, leads the team in scoring, while Marcin is second with two goals and one assist. Sophomore Daniel Fabian (Southbury, Conn.) also has two goals. PC goalkeeper Timothy Murray (Haverhill, Mass.) has started 11 matches for the Friars and has recorded six shutouts.

    Seton Hall (4-6-2, 1-4-2 BIG EAST) is coming off a 0-0 double overtime tie against Marquette on Saturday, October 10 in South Orange, N.J. Goalkeeper Paul McHenry made six saves for the Pirates who finished with an 18-15 shot advantage. Andrew Welker leads the team in scoring with six goals and two assists, while Dritan Sela is second with five goals and two assists. McHenry has played in all 12 matches and has posted three shutouts.

    The Friars are 8-11-5 all-time against the Pirates. Last season, Seton Hall defeated the Friars, 3-2, in overtime in South Orange, N.J. as Brayan Martinez scored early in overtime to lead his team. PC's last win over SHU came on October 24, 2007. Alex Redding (Newton, Mass.) who was a freshman at the time, scored the overtime game winner as the Friars posted a 3-2 triumph.
