    PROVIDENCE, R.I. -

On Monday afternoon (Oct. 7), the BIG EAST named Providence College men’s soccer senior back Anthony Baumann (Spring Hill, Fla.) as the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week.

Baumann led the Friars to their first win over St. John’s since the 1988 season when he converted a penalty kick in the 77th minute to send Providence College to a 1-0 win at Belson Stadium on Saturday night. It was Baumann’s second goal of the season. On the defensive side of the field, Baumann helped the Friars to their third shutout of the year.
