PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's soccer team will host the University of Connecticut on Wednesday, October 8 at 3:00 p.m. in a BIG EAST Conference match at Glay Field.

The Friars (3-4-3, 1-4-1 BIG EAST) will play their first home match since September 21. In their last game, the Friars were defeated by Seton Hall, 3-2, on Saturday, October 4 in South Orange, N.J. Providence trailed, 2-0, at the half but scored two goals early in the second half to even the score (2-2). Junior Timothy Ritter (Weston, Mass.) scored in the 48th minute to cut the lead in half as senior Ryan Maduro (Bristol, R.I.) assisted on the goal. Maduro's assist marked the 18th of his career, which is tied for fourth all-time at Providence. Less than seven minutes later, Maduro tallied his first goal of the season to tie the game and force overtime. However, the Pirates scored less than three minutes into the first overtime to seal the win. Ritter leads the team in scoring with two goals and two assists, while Maduro has one goal and two assists. In goal, junior Timothy Murray (Haverhill, Mass.) has posted a 0.84 goals against average in 10 games.

The No. 7/11 Huskies (5-2-3, 3-2-0 BIG EAST) are coming off a 1-0 home loss against West Virginia on Friday, October 3. The Huskies outshot the Mountaineers by a 16-4 margin, but West Virginia scored in the 30th minute and held on for the victory. O'Brian White leads the team in scoring with four goals and two assists, while Akeem Priestly has three goals and two assists. In goal, Josh Ford has played in every game and has posted a 0.54 goals against average.

In 33 all-time meetings against the Huskies, the Friars have a 3-28-2 record. Providence's last victory over UConn was on September 10, 1997, a 2-1 overtime triumph in Providence. Last season, the Huskies defeated the Friars, 3-0, as O'Brian White scored all three goals for UConn.
