Men's Soccer Standout Ryan Maduro Named BIG EAST Offensive Player of Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The BIG EAST Conference announced today that Providence College men's soccer senior All-American Ryan Maduro (Bristol, R.I.) was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week. Maduro, who earned the honor for the first time in his career, becomes the first Friar to be tabbed as the league's offensive player of the week since Eoin Lynch in October 3, 2005. Maduro helped the Friars to a 3-1 win over Syracuse on Friday, September 28. He assisted on the first goal of the match as the Friars jumped ahead, 1-0, in the seventh minute. Just 25 seconds before halftime, Maduro scored his third goal of the season to give the Friars a 2-0 advantage. After the Orange cut the lead in half in the 60th minute, the midfielder sealed the win in the 69th minute with his second goal of the match. It marked the second time is his career that he scored twice in one contest. The only other time that Maduro scored twice in a game was on September 23, 2005 in a 3-2 home win over Syracuse. Maduro leads the BIG EAST in scoring with eight points (three goals, two assists) in four league matches. Overall, he has four goals and three assists in nine total games. Providence (5-3-1, 2-1-1 BIG EAST), which also earned a 0-0 double overtime tie versus St. John's on Sunday, September 30, is currently in third place of the BIG EAST Blue Division. The Friars are back in action on Saturday, October 6 when they face Georgetown at 1:00 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
