Men's Soccer To Host Pittsburgh On Saturday At 1 PM

MEN'S SOCCER vs. PITTSBURGH -- Saturday, October 2 - 1:00 p.m. at Glay Field

University of Pittsburgh (3-4-2, 0-3-1) - The University of Pittsburgh Panthers enter Saturday's game coming off a victory over Robert Morris, 3-0, on Sept. 29. The Panthers leading scorer this season is junior midfielder Ben Garry (Rochester, Minn.) who has recorded eight points (four goals). Pittsburgh had a tough start in Big East play, losing two of their first four matches in overtime -- Seton Hall (3-2) on Sept. 20 and Georgetown (1-0) on Sept. 25. Freshman Justin Gaul (Huntington Valley, Pa.) is the Panthers' top goalkeeper this season. Gaul has a 3-4-1 record, 1.23 goals against average and .774 save percentage. The Panthers hold the advantage in the all-time series over the Friars with a 5-3-1 record. The last time Pittsburgh came to Providence, the team registered a 4-1 victory over the Friars in 1997.

Providence College (3-4-1, 2-3) - The Friars return to action on Saturday after dropping a 3-1 decision to seventh-ranked UConn on Sept. 29 at Glay Field. Wednesday's defeat marked the Friars' first home loss in seven games for the team. Junior forward Kevin Jones (Westford, Mass.) leads the squad in scoring with 12 points (five goals, two assists). Jones, scored two goals in last year's meeting with the Panthers. Last season, PC defeated Pittsburgh, 2-0, in Pittsburgh. Sophomore goalkeeper Danny Glynn (Manchester, England) should start in net for the Friars. This season, he has posted a 2-4-0 mark, a 2.15 goals against average and a .641 save percentage.
