Men’s Soccer To Host BIG EAST Opponent Xavier

The Providence College men’s soccer team resumes BIG EAST play on Oct. 1 against the Xavier Musketeers at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) via FOX Sports GO.

Scouting the Musketeers The Xavier Musketeers enter the match with a 4-2-2 overall record, including a 2-0 BIG EAST record, after defeating DePaul (1-0) on Sept. 17 and Georgetown (2-0) on Sept. 24. In the latest NSCAA Poll the Musketeers were among the list of teams receiving votes.

Xavier is led by senior forward Jalen Brown with eight points, on three goals and two assists. Freshman forward Derrick Otim is second among his teammates in points (seven) with three goals and one assist.

Three different Musketeers have seen time in net during the 2016 season. Jake Carcillo has played 400:00 minutes with five goals against and 14 saves for a 1.12 goals against average and .737 save percentage. Colin Hanley played in the Musketeer’s most recent game against Georgetown, earning a shutout with a six save effort. Hanley has posted a 0.67 goals against average and .846 save percentage over 270:00 minutes of play.

Scouting the Friars Providence enters the match with a 4-5 record and 0-2 mark in BIG EAST play. The Friars are led by Julian Gressel (Neustadt an der Aisch, Germany), who has nine points on four goals and one assist.


 

 

Ben Seguljic has played 558:38 minutes on the season, making 28 saves and allowing nine goals, for a 1.45 goals against average and a .757 save percentage. 

The Friars played a mid-week game against non-conference opponent University of Connecticut at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium and lost 1-0. The Friars conceded the game’s only goal in the 76th minute and were unable to convert to even the score.

Up Next The Friars will play cross-city rival Brown on October 5 at 7:00 p.m. at Brown in a non-conference match up.
