Mark Jecewiz Named a Candidate for Senior CLASS Award

Sept. 22, 2017

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -

Mark Jecewiz (Smithtown, N.Y.) of the Providence College men’s soccer team was selected as a candidate for the prestigious 2017 Senior CLASS Award in collegiate soccer, as announced Friday (Sept. 22).

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in the four domains of community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS award focuses on the total student-athlete.

Jecewiz,a red-shirt senior defender for the Friars, has been a two-year captain of the program. A leader on and off the field, he has played in 57 games, making 53 starts. Last season, he was named to the BIG EAST First Team and the NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region First Team. Before the start of this season, Jecewiz was selected to the Preseason All-BIG East First Team.

Academically, Jecewiz graduated with a 3.35 GPA as an accounting major with a finance minor. He is now pursuing a Masters of Business Administration. He was named to the BIG EAST All-Academic team during all four years of his undergraduate degree.

In the community, Jecewiz has served as a three-year member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). During his time with SAAC, he participated in a wide variety of community service projects, including Relay for Life.

The pool of 30 men’s soccer players will be narrowed down to 10 finalists midway through the regular season. Those 10 names will then be placed on the official ballot, which will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans. Eventually, one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition will be selected. The winners will be announced during the NCAA Men’s and Women’s College Cup Championships in December.
