PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's soccer team is ranked No. 25 in the Soccer America national poll which was released on Monday, September 8. It marks the first time since October 16, 2006 that Providence has been ranked nationally. The Friars (2-0-1), who are off to their best start since 2005, have beaten Sacred Heart (1-0 on 8/29) and fourth-ranked Boston College (1-0 on 9/1). Most recently, the Friars played to a 1-1 double overtime draw against Holy Cross on Friday, September 5 in Worcester, Mass. Junior Timothy Ritter (Weston, Mass.) scored the lone goal for PC, while goalkeeper Timothy Murray (Haverhill, Mass.) made a season-high five saves. Ritter has been involved in all three Friar goals this season as he posted one assist in each of the first two victories. He leads the team with four points.
The Friars will host the University of Rhode Island on Tuesday, September 9 at 3:00 p.m. at Glay Field. The match will be televised on Cox Sports and aired via tape delay on Thursday, September 11 at 7:00 p.m. It also will be aired via tape delay on Sportsnet NY on September 13 at 4:00 p.m.
