Men's Soccer To Host Fairfield On Tues. At 3:30
MEN'S SOCCER vs. FAIRFIELD UNIVERSITY AT PROVIDENCE COLLEGE -- Tuesday, September 7 - 3:30 p.m. at Glay Field Fairfield University (0-1-0) - Fairfield opened its season on September 4 with a 1-0 loss to Hartwick College ... Last season, the Stags posted their finest season ever with a 15-4-1 mark, which included winning the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular season crown. Also last season, Fairfield was ranked as high as 24th nationally ... The Stags were picked to win the MAAC in the Preseason Coaches' Poll ... The Stags will be led on offense by junior Ryan Miosek (Cooperstown, N.Y.) and sophomores Mark Dietz (Louisville, K.Y.) and Craig January (Marshfield, Mass.). Sophomore goaltender Roger Noll (Auckland, New Zealand) should start in net for Fairfield. In the team's game against Hartwick, Noll made four saves and faced nine shots.
Providence College (1-0-0) - The Friars' most recent game against Sacred Heart scheduled for September 4 was cancelled. The Friars' only game this season was a 3-1 victory against Boston College on Sept. 1. PC's game against Fairfield will be the team's home opener ... On Tuesday, the Friars will be looking to avenge their 1-0 loss to Fairfield last season. Providence holds a 15-2-1 mark all-time against Fairfield ... Junior forward Kevin Jones (Westford, Mass.) leads the team in scoring with three points (one goal, one assist). Sophomore goalkeeper Danny Glynn (Manchester, England) will be making his second start as a Friar and his first against his former team. Glynn transferred to Providence after a strong rookie year at Fairfield where he established a school record for shutouts (nine) and posted a 14-4-1 mark in 1998.
