PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- It was announced today that Providence College senior soccer standout Kevin Jones (Westford, Mass.) was named to the 2000 Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.

Jones had his most productive season as a Friar in 1999. He led the team in scoring (25 points), goals (eight) and assists (nine). It marked the second consecutive season he led team in scoring. For his efforts he earned Second Team All-BIG EAST honors and First Team All-New England accolades. Jones ranks fourth all-time at Providence in scoring (52 points) and goals (18). Jones, a former all-scholastic athlete, is a 1996 graduate of Westford Academy.

Providence was selected to finish tied for 10th in the 2000 BIG EAST Men's Soccer Preseason Poll by a vote of the league's head coaches. Last season, the men's soccer team posted an overall record of 8-8-1 with a 5-6-1 mark in the BIG EAST. In 1999, The Friars fell shy of qualifying for the BIG EAST Tournament as they finished tied for eighth and were edged out by Notre Dame in a tiebreaker.

The Friars open their 2000 season on Friday, September 1, when they take on the University of Maine in the opening round of the University of Rhode Island Tournament at 5:30 p.m.
