PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College Athletics is proud to announce the largest gift from an individual who is not a member of the Board of Trustees in the history of Providence College Athletics. Mike and Maura Chapey, both PC graduates from the class of 1986, made the historic $1 million gift to support the construction of a state-of-the-art lacrosse and soccer complex.
"This gift symbolizes what Providence College means to us," Mike Chapey said. "I really enjoyed my experience on the lacrosse team. We are excited about the direction of the program and the opportunity to be a part of building a championship lacrosse program at PC."
"PC has been and will always be an important part of our lives, Maura Chapey said. "It is so exciting for us to see the next generation of PC students making the most of their opportunities and the administration's passion in creating a place where they can do that."
"With Coach Gabrielli leading the program along with a new locker room, office, video room and stadium, I feel PC lacrosse will compete at the highest level for many years to come," Chapey continued. "I also appreciate the investment and support PC has put behind the program under the leadership of Father Shanley and Athletic Director Bob Driscoll."
"The generosity of Mike and Maura enables us to invest in our athletic programs and most importantly our student-athletes," Driscoll said. "The new lacrosse and soccer complex will enable our coaches to recruit the highest caliber student-athletes to wear the black and white. On behalf of the administration, coaches and every student-athlete in Friartown, I want to sincerely thank the Chapey family for the impact they have made on Providence College."
The field of the new lacrosse and soccer complex will be named Chapey Field in honor of their generous donation. The facility will be located next to the renovated Schneider Arena.
