Men’s Soccer’s Danny Griffin Selected to US Soccer Men’s U-19 National Team Training Camp

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College men’s soccer midfielder Danny Griffin (Wethersfield, Conn.) has been selected to the US Soccer U-19 Men’s National Team Training Camp. Griffin is one of 22 players to be named to the Florida Training Camp roster by Head Coach Brad Friedel as announced by US Soccer today [Feb. 3].

The camp is an eight-day (Feb. 3 – 10) domestic training camp located in Sunrise, Fla.

At the camp, Griffin will participate in friendly matches against El Salvador and Miami FC. The camp is the first U-19 MNT gathering of 2017. Griffin also participated in the 2016 Chula Vista Training camp in October.

Griffin is one of seven college players and one of eleven midfielders to be selected to the camp.

Griffin recorded seven goals and one assist for 15 points in his rookie season. The freshman midfielder collected six game winning goals, including the game-winner in the Friars' 2-1 victory at Creighton for the NCAA Third Round game. Griffin is the first Friar to register 15 points in his rookie season since Marcos Ugarte in 2011. Griffin’s seven goals is a rookie best at Providence.

The freshman midfielder was named a unanimous selection to the BIG EAST All-Freshman Team and selected to the All-Great Lakes Region Third Team.
