Mac Steeves Selected 43rd in the MLS SuperDraft

Jan. 19, 2018

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Providence College men’s soccer standout Mac Steeves (Needham, Mass.) was selected to the Houston Dynamo in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft on Jan. 19. Steeves was drafted 20th in the second round and 43rd overall.

“I truly want to thank my family, coaches and teammates I’ve had along the way,” Steeves said. “I am so thankful for the support of my Friar family, especially everyone in the athletic training room for getting me back healthy after two surgeries. I am so excited to join the Houston Dynamo and start a new journey!”

Providence has now had eight players drafted into the MLS. Before Steeves, the most recent Friar to be drafted was reigning MLS Rookie of the Year, Julian Gressel. He was drafted eighth overall to Atlanta United FC.

"We are happy that Mac was picked up on the first day of the MLS draft and has been given this opportunity to prove himself at the next level,” said Head Coach Craig Stewart. “He had a fantastic career at Providence College, leaving our program as second all-time in both goals and points. He was obviously a huge part of our program’s recent success and we are proud of what he has accomplished to this point. We wish him all the best moving forward with Houston.”
