Providence Outshoots Fairfield 3-1
PROVIDENCE, R.I -- The Providence College men's soccer team defeated the Fairfiield Stags, 3-1, Saturday, September 20 at Providence, R.I.
Providence freshman back Matt O' Toole scored the game's first goal with an individual effort that allowed him to blast a shot past Fairfield goaltender Chris Sheckley at 17:43. Friar captain Juan Acevedo netted Providence's second goal in the lower right corner after receiving a feed from Keith Dorsey.
Fairfield threatened when A.J . Calantoni scored on a pass from Brian Homowitz at the 53:42 mark. However, the Friars answered with a goal by Andrew McConville on a penalty kick at 55:33.
Providence junior goaltender Dan Pires recorded four saves in the win. Fairfield's sophomore goalies Chris Sheckley and John Wallace combined to register four saves in the loss.
Providence improved its overall record to 2-4-0, while Fairfield dropped to 1-4-1.
Providence College returns to action on Tuesday, September 23 against Harvard at 3:30 at PC's Glay Field.
