MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- The Providence College men's soccer team was defeated by West Virginia University, 2-1, Saturday, October 4 in BIG EAST action in Morgantown, W.Va.
WVU junior Matt Tanzini gave the Mountaineers a 1-0 lead when he headed in the game's first goal at the 7:54 mark. Freshman Craig Patton kicked in a rebound and scored what proved to be the game-winning goal for West Virginia at 54:44. Sophomore Andy McConville netted the Friars' lone goal off a foul kick at the 66:16 mark.
West Virginia goalkeeper Carlos Iga registered one save for the Mountaineers. PC goalkeeper Dan Pires recorded three saves on 10 shots in the loss.
West Virginia improved its overall record to 4-7, 2-5 in the BIG EAST, while Providence dropped to 3-8 overall and 1-6 in the BIG EAST.
Providence College returns to action on Tuesday, October 7 against Brown at PC's Glay Field.
