Men's Soccer Loses on Last Minute Goal
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College men's soccer team was defeated by Brown University, 4-3, Tuesday, October 7 at Providence, R.I. Forward Josh Anderson led the Brown offense as he tallied three goals, including the gamewinner with 54 seconds remaining in the contest.
PC scored the first goal of the game when senior captain Juan Acevedo headed in a cross from sophomore forward Michael Eisenhut at the 7:37 mark. Brown quickly retaliated with a goal of its own when Anderson scored on a pass from Christian Martinez at the 8:07 mark to tie the game at 1-1. Junior forward Michael Rudy netted Brown's second goal on a pass from freshman midfielder Scott Powers at the 10:16 mark to take a 2-1 lead. The Friars countered with a goal from sophomore midfielder Andrew McConville on a feed from Chris Holterhoff at 11:02 to even the game at 2-2. Brown regained the lead when Anderson scored on a penalty kick at the 23:50 mark. PC's Eisenhut chipped a shot past Brown goalkeeper Matthew Cross on a pass from junior midfielder Bobby Brown and Holterhoff at 49:41 to tie the game at 3-3. Anderson scored the game-winning goal and completed a hat trick at 89:06.
Cross made five saves in the win for Brown. PC's Dan Pires registered five stops in the loss.
Brown improved its overall record to 4-4, while Providence dropped to 3-9 overall.
Providence College returns to action on Tuesday, October 14 against Holy Cross at Worcester, Mass.
