QUEENS, N.Y. - The Providence College men's soccer team fell to #3 St. Johns, 1-0 in overtime on Saturday, November 08, 2008 at Belson Stadium in Queens, New York. Providence concludes the BIG EAST Championships with a 9-7-3 record while the Red Storm move to 15-1-3. The first half was a virtual deadlock as neither team took significant advantage. PC's first chance of the game came off a Tim Ritter (Weston, Ma.) feed to Ryan Maduro (Bristol, R.I.) who put his shot just over the Red Storm net in the sixth minute. Freshman John Raley (St. Inigoes, Md.) took the Friars' best chance of the half as his 35 yard shot deflected off the top crossbar in the 28th minute. In the 30th minute, off a set piece from Maduro, junior Bryan Minogue's (Miller Place, N.Y.) opportunity for a second goal in the BIG EAST Championships went just wide of the net. Freshman Chris Stoker (Holden, Ma.) got the Friars going in the 47th minute of the second half after taking a shot that was deflected deep in Red Storm territory. Matt Marcin's (Wilmington, Del.) shot off the deflection was pushed out by the St. John's defense. Then in the 58th minute, Maduro then sent a high cross which Ritter headed in on the goalkeeper but was punched out over the net. Later, Marcin took two consecutive corner kicks in the 82nd minute both headed wide of the net by Ritter. The Red Storm put the game away in overtime as Tadeu Terra eluded the Friar defense and took a 10 yard shot into the bottom right corner, giving St. John's the 1-0 victory.
Friar goalkeeper Tim Murray (Haverhill, Ma.) made four saves off 13 Red Storm shots. SJU goalkeeper Neal Kitson made three saves off 12 Friar chances.
