Men's Soccer Defeated By UConn, 2-1

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College men's soccer team was defeated by the University of Connecticut, 2-1, in BIG EAST soccer action on Tuesday, November 2 at PC's Glay Field in Providence. UConn's Chukwudi Chijindu scored the winning goal in the 75th minute for the Huskies.

    After a scoreless first half, UConn's Steve Sealy broke the 0-0 tie when he kicked in a shot at 57:42. Five minutes later, the Friars tied the score on a goal by junior Derek Nobrega (Cumberland, R.I.). Nobrega booted in a loose ball from three feet in front of the net. Junior Eoin Lynch (Yarmouth, Maine) assisted on the goal. With 15 minutes remaining in the game, Chijindu kicked in a rebound for what proved to be the winning goal.

    The Friars outshot the Huskies, 10-8, in the game, including an 8-5 advantage in the second half.

    Providence senior goalkeeper Jeff Newman (Northboro, Mass.) made four saves in his final game for the Friars.
